I’ve never understood people and their hatred, powders,

sprays, a whole aisle at the hardware store

devoted to destruction

where men lean on the counter

among stacks of hammers and scattered screws,

talk about lawnmowers and politics

and offer their opinions on the best way

to kill an unruly weed.
